...::: Q STUFF :::...
Ironically brought to you by ThePowerPig.com
COMING SOON: www.Q105TampaBay.com

This what I call my "Junk Drawer of Q105 stuff". This section is here for two reasons - first, to eventually showcase how great Q105 (WRBQ) actually WAS at one time & second to showcase just how bad it BECAME before the
Power Pig debuted & then how much WORSE it became after the Power Pig launched.

Quite a few people suggested I consider designing a Q105 Tribute Site as well. Q105 WAS a powerful,
legendary radio station through the 80's that deserves a tribute site but I just don't have the time to take on two sites. But as we this made final plans for this new version of ThePowerPig.com, this page was worked in.
We'll work toward expanding the info a little further in the future.

Please e-mail any additions, corrections or Q stuff you like to see added here to ThePowerPig@aol.com.

AIRCHECK-July 1991-Q105 as “A Better Mix of Music”
(NOTE: This is a 32 minute clip so it will take a while to download.)
Q Morning Zoo-Mike (Elliot) & Kent (Voss)
Pat George & Arch Deal-Tire Kingdom Go-Patrol Traffic
Chery Southmayd-news Dick Crippen-sports
Joey Steele-brief Q Super Sticker Patrol Stop call-in

This is what was picked to replace Cleveland Wheeler….Mike & Kent. It sounds like it MUST be their first day, but this is actually EIGHT months since they started. Listen and you’ll hear these guys not know the day’s forecast, not know the date of a Michael Bolton concert that they are giving tickets away to, then talk all over the vocals of a Bolton song. Pre-produced comedy bits…that aren’t funny. And oh yeah, how do you those concert tickets? “Just be caller ONE and tell our Phone Line Producer that you love her to win!”.
Fun Note #1: The VERY un-funny Mike & Kent Show's producer was actually the very funny (at least now he is) Jimmy Kimmel from Comedy Central's "The Man Show" and now "Jimmy Kimmel Live" on ABC TV late night.
Fun Note #2: They make mention that the then owner of the Q, Edens Broadcasting, awarded a monthly “Edens Pride” status to a Q105 employee. The guys explain that all that means is you are picked to “assume part of the company debt”. Followed by “yeah, all $65 million”. (Thanks to Lou from AircheckLinks.com for this clip)

COMING SOON !! AIRCHECK-June 1991-Q105 “A Better Mix of Music and More of It!”   COMING SOON !!
Nights-Johny D

The first night jock after B.C. Brian Christopher was let go was Johny D (yup, just one N), kinda the Vanilla Ice of radio disc jockeys. This starts with Johny rolling through the Top 8 at 8 Countdown and the “Hot Mix at Nine”. Musically, this was the period where Q105 was attempting to battle the Pig by playing what they played, branding it as “A Better Mix” that you “Get More of”. This meant a lot of dance records and other songs that Q was not known for playing (and more of them), in effect chasing away the adult audience that had hung in there with them. On the streets, the younger audience the Q was now trying to lure back saw the Q as “the uncool station” and “just a copy cat of the Power Pig”, the same exact things The Power Pig’s promos said over and over. (Thanks to Lou from AircheckLinks.com for this clip)

Q105 Station Composite from 1980 (4:53)

Very interesting to listen to. This version of Q105 sounds like it was much more focused and on track than the giant Q105 that The Power Pig took down ten years later. You'll hear a VERY different sounding Mason Dixon on here as well as Dave Mann, Pat McCabe and Kathy "Wild" West. (Thanks to Rich from MasterofRadio.com for this clip)

Q JINGLES #1-Warp Factor (9:47)
- jock jingles for Dr. Crane, Shadow Logan, Mike Reeves, Bobby Rich, Chuck Bear plus
two different Tampa Bay weather beds and more.

Q JINGLES #2-Z Force (6:24)
- jock shouts for Brian Christopher, Mike Reeves, Mason Dixon.
- Top of the Hour talk up ramp used when Q became “Tampa Bay’s Hit Music Station” around 1992.
- Fourth of July & some Christmas jingles

Q JINGLES #3-Power Station (4:17)                                     Q JINGLES #4-Positron (1:24)
- A third Tampa Bay weather bed

Q JINGLES #5-The Flame Thrower (4:39)                              Q JINGLES #6-
- QMorningZoo jingles plus shouts for Shadow Logan, The Shadow,
The Top 5 at 9 and a fourth Tampa Bay weather bed.

Where Did All The Q Go?
Most people tell us they enjoy reading how The Power Pig went from "worst to first " in Tampa Bay in just 71 days.
After reading some of the tactics that were used, both on and off air, a lot them found themselves wanting to know
more about the people who were behind Q105 at the time. A frequent question we're asked is "Whatever happened
to all the people that worked at the Q?
" So we've listed them below along with what station they are currently with
and a link to them on the web if available.

It's interesting to note that the bulk of them went on to have very successful careers, a good number even remained
right here in Tampa Bay. Also, this list originally started as guide to everyone who was fired, not renewed or quit
AFTER the Power Pig hit the air, which was 90% of the staff eventually. Great names like Scott Shannon, Tedd Webb, Jack Harris, Jon Anthony & Terrence McKeever were not listed here because they had left Q105
before the Power Pig arrived.
